Introduction

This is my 2011 ePortfolios. Some of the things that I am comfortable working on is doing Science work because I can easily understand the things Mr. Potter is talking about. Another subject is math because I can always remember some of the formula and Mr. Harbeck explains every new unit very understandable. One of the things I need to improve on is supporting my ideas in Language Arts because I get low marks for not supporting some of my ideas. Another thing I need to improve on is putting more effort and study more about Social Studies so I can get higher marks in unit tests. My goal for the next six weeks is to study and be focused more on my subjects so when it comes to exam time, I can study easier and faster.

Term 1 Reflection

Term 1 was a great term. I learned new things like rate, proportion, square numbers and the pythagorian relationship. I also learned how to use the grade 8 math blog. For me, square numbers is the easiest because the only thing you need to do is multiply the number by itself. Pythagoras is the hardest part for me because you have to do so many things to find the correct answer. There is a time that I can’t do home works because I was in the Philippines for the first month of school. I will ask more often if I don’t understand the lesson and I will study better for quizzes so I can do better for the next term. Hope I can do better in Math next year.

Proportion, Ratio and Rate

For this section, I did not have a scribe post for this one.

Term 2 Reflection

In this term, we started learning about percent, surface area, volume. I like volume because it gave me a good mark and (for me) it is the easiest. I did good in surface area but breaking a prism into a net is the one that made it hard for me. I always get the correct answer but in getting the right ones for the net, just sucks for me. I will do more work so I can get used to what we are doing in class and finish some homework book pages so I can do better next year. Percent is a number out of a 100 and Surface Area is the added area of all the faces of a prism but a Volume is finding the area of the base of a prism then multiply it by the height.

Percent

I did not have a percent scribe but here is my Final Percent Post

Integers

On my integer test, I got 19 out of 27. I made quite a few mistakes. Some of my mistakes were about the negative signs, like changing 8 - (-5) into 8+5. Another mistake I did is subtracting integers which is supposed to be added like -8 - 8. What I did is I subtracted it and got -16 instead getting 0.

GRADE EIGHT STUDENT ASSIGNMENT- PORTFOLIO REFLECTION
TASK/INTENT/CRITERIAThroughout the year I have completed assignments based on Assessment for Learning practices. The learning process has followed the three key components:Subject:Cro-Magnon Poster
Social Studies
TASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment?
I was required to create a poster outlining the social organization, home, food, and the tools used by the cro-magnon people.
INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment?
There are different reasons why I finished this assignment. One reason is this assignment helped me to understand visully how the cro-magnons lived in the past. Another reason is this poster helped me to make a visual organiser which is another way of showing your ideas. The last reason I have is this assignment is another way to study for the unit test by serving as a study guide.
CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?
-make visual organiser to represent specific details/aspects of how the cro-magnon lived everyday.(home, food, tools, social organization)
-each part of the poster needs a title
-followed the rubric given to finish task(title neatly done/colouring)
NEXT STEPS:
-I can now create a visual organiser to show important and specific details.
-I can now have another thing to study that can be used as a study guide to prepare for a unit test.
-I can help to create a rubric/criteria for how to complete an assignment.
-I can follow to finish an assignment completely.

First, to understand a part from the story and draw using my imagination. Another reason is to draw from another person's perspective like this one is the reader's perspective. Lastly, to make a visual of our understanding about the short story. CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?
-draw pictures from the text with specific details

NEXT STEPS:
-I can now draw pictures from the text using my imagination.
-I can now draw an important part that happened in the story,
-I can now draw from someone's perspective.

Throughout the year I have completed assignments based on Assessment for Learning practices. The learning process has followed the three key components:Subject:EXPLORE Reading Response Language ArtsTASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment?I was required to create a response about the book I am reading throughout the week,INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment? There are many reasons why I made a EXPLORE reading response. First, to get ideas from the text so we can put something in the EXPLORE organiser. Second, to be practiced on supporting ideas we gave by giving specific examples and details from the chapters we read. Lastly, to learn how to use the EXPLORE organiser and use the ideas in the organiser to be used to make a paragraph.CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?-give as much ideas you can from the text.-always support every idea using specific details from the text-give specific examples for each part of the EXPLORE organiser-complete all steps in the writing process as set out in the assignment directions.NEXT STEPS:-I can now give as much ideas as I can from the book.-I can now support every ideas using specific examples from the text.-I can now asnwer every question for each part of the EXPLORE organiser.-I can now use the EXPLORE organiser to guide me in making paragraphs.

2 Minutes to Make a Difference

My topic is about child labor in the Philippines. Some of my big questions are which kids working in Africa and Philippines is having a safer life? Compare the conditions of kids working in Africa and in the Philippines and Research what kinds of work a kid in Philippines does for child labor. How much money do they get per day? Some of the key points I got is the kids in the Philippines are affected by child labor. They work because they're parents don't have jobs to provide them enough money to live, Child labour is known as a serious problem in the Philippines. It happens mostly in Mindanao because of the abandoned soldiers forcing the kids to do work. Kids with parents that don't work are the ones that are affected by child labour. I am currently collecting pictures for my project and the project is due at May 20.
